Health Screening NZ was established for one clear reason – to decrease the risk of everyday New Zealanders having a heart attack or stroke. We know cardiovascular disease is preventable so why isn’t more done to stop so many families suffering? Dr John Cook is a Christchurch GP that knew there had to be a better solution and after over a decade of research CardiAction was born; however, he needed a way to make this as accessible to the community as possible. Dr Cook reached out to Carolyn Oakley-Brown who owned the pharmacy next door to his medical practice and after demonstrating his new screening tool Carolyn knew this had to be available in community pharmacies nationwide.

Despite being a clinical pharmacist with 41 years of experience and a family history of cardiovascular disease, Carolyn didn’t know about the easy lifestyle recommendations that she could follow to dramatically reduce her risk. At the age of 71 Carolyn’s father died of a heart attack and had no indication that he was suffering from cardiovascular disease. Carolyn believes that had CardiAction Screening been available 30yrs ago it could have saved his life and that is exactly why we are bringing this service to you.
